PHIVOLCS: 8 volcanic earthquakes recorded in Mt. Kanlaon during the 24 hour Observation Period11/13/2020 BACOLOD CITY – Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 after eight volcanic earthquakes were recorded in its vicinity during the last 24-hour observation period, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) stated yesterday, November 12, 2020. As the volcano stays under Alert Level 1, it means that “it is at an abnormal condition and has entered a period of unrest”, PHIVOLCS explained on their released Kanlaon Volcano Bulletin. “The local government units and the public are strongly reminded that entry into the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) must be strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions,” PHIVOLCS said. Civil aviation authorities were advised to avoid flying their aircrafts close to the volcano’s summit due to hazard, and everyone in the vicinity were reminded to stay cautious since Kanlaon is as yet under it’s unusual condition.
